Beyond the Midnight Mountain
A chosen exile. A promise to keep. A secret to hide.
River of Webs
Floating river houses. Fires. An irritated mage ready with curses.
As empress, Yania is her people’s protector. But traitors have made an attempt on her life, she’s fled the palace, and now it’s time to protect herself.
She disguises herself as a commoner and convinces three traveling brothers to take her north with them to the lowlands. There, she'll seek help reclaiming her throne—if her friends there are still on her side. Along the way, Yania learns she’s partially responsible for the her new companions’ past misfortunes. As she races to fix messes before they find out who she is, and find out whether her old friends are loyal, her pursuers are closing in on her. Status: Re-outlining |
Simi spends her days tending her garden and weaving with her sister Zera in their floating river village. But what she really wants is to convince their irresponsible, widowed brother-in-law to marry her so she can keep an eye on his young son. What could be more reasonable?
But when Simi, Zera, and their nephew flee danger in the night, they end up downstream--lost among the river's many branches. They approach a camp of nomads to ask for help finding home. Instead Simi encounters an old flame. Perhaps they argue a little, perhaps they break a magic vase. And perhaps the vase's maker curses them to feel each other's pain until...well, until they can figure out how to break the spell.
